Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a structured, evidence-based psychotherapy approach that helps people process and heal from trauma and distressing life experiences. It’s especially effective for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) but is also used for anxiety, depression, phobias, and other mental health conditions.
How EMDR Works:
EMDR therapy focuses on helping the brain process traumatic memories so they no longer cause intense emotional distress. It involves the client recalling traumatic experiences while the therapist guides them through bilateral stimulation, typically through:
• Eye movements (following the therapist’s fingers side to side),
• Tapping on alternate sides of the body, or
• Auditory tones alternating between the ears.

The first therapy session is typically focused on building a foundation for the therapeutic process. It’s a chance for both you and I to get to know each other and set the stage for future work. The session includes:
1. Introductions and Building Rapport
2. Discussing Your Reasons for Seeking Therapy
3. Gathering Background Information
4. Setting Goals for Therapy
5. Explaining the Therapeutic Process
6. Addressing Questions and Concerns
